Laboratory Research Technician
The Byrne Lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Technician IV to conduct mouse animal research. Duties will include animal husbandry tasks, including the breeding, handling, and care of mice, gene therapy administration, imaging, genotyping and immunohistochemistry. A bachelor’s degree in biology, or a similarly related scientific field, as well as prior experience with mouse research is required. Experience with any of the following skills is highly desired: performing injections into mouse eyes, electroretinography (ERG), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and immunuhistochemistry. Specific experience in eye research is preferred but not required. All applicants should be highly motivated and able to work independently, have excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, and adhere to the highest standards of animal care and research integrity.
Computational biologist
The Byrne Lab is looking for a full-time Bioinformatics Specialist to join the team in developing and advancing retinal gene therapies using next-generation sequencing analysis. Job duties will include creating workflows/pipelines for various projects, managing/storing sequencing data, and assisting in the design of sequencing experiments. The candidate must be comfortable with running jobs on HPC and should be proficient in R. Current projects include analysis of scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, and custom targeted panel datasets. The candidate must be adaptive to new projects/sequencing experiments and work well in a team environment.
